This photo was a tabletop project. Also this was the first real tethered shoot I did. For this I used the Macbook Pro, the Canon software that came with the Camera, my Canon EOS 7D, the EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro, my tripod and a small softbox kit with 2 halogen spots. Also I used a elevated plexiglas as my working space.

First I set up my laptop, connected a USB cable between the Macbook Pro and the camera. Switch on the camera and the Canon software started automatically. Next I placed my camera on the tripod and switched the lens to manual focus.

After that I placed the plexiglass on on few drinking glasses to elevate it. On top of the plexiglas I placed the softbox, and on the left and right side placed a small halogen spot.

Marble photoshoot, Softbox setup (click the photo for larger version)

In the above photo you can see the setup; this was a test shot with the EF 24-105mm f/4 still attached, after the test shoot I decided to use the 100mm Macro to get a tighter crop.

After that I controlled the complete shoot from the laptop, here you can see this setup:
This is a very small town in the middle of nowhere on the Veluwe. There are also some buildings used for long wave transmissions starting in the 1920’s. Now these buildings are not in use anymore. I took some photos of Building A, also known as “The Cathedral”. This building was also used as a setting in the 2004 movie “Mind Hunters“.

This was also the first week I primarily used Aperture 3 instead of Lightroom 3 beta. The color photos are processed only in Aperture, the Black and White are also processed with Silver Effects Pro. So far the Aperture 3 experience is a mostly positive one and I will keep using it. At least until Lightroom 3 is final.

Last week I went to Foto Konijnenberg to look at two lenses I had been reading about. The 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM and the 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM. Both are excellent lenses and real “L” quality. The build quality was much better than the EF-S 17-55mm f//2.8 IS USM I had so after doing some test shoots outside I was really liking the 24-105 but I had a large overlap with the 17-55. And then the salesmen made a very good trade in offer so I decided to get the 24-105. So now I only need a wide angle lens 14mm 2.8.
